How SEER2 Savings Are Calculated

SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio) measures how much cooling you get per unit of electricity across a season โ€” a higher number means less energy for the same comfort. SEER2 is the updated 2023 US standard, tested under more realistic conditions; it runs about 4.5% lower than the old SEER for the same equipment.

1. Seasonal Cooling Energy

Annual cooling electricity โ‰ˆ (tons ร— 12,000 ร— cooling-hours) รท SEER รท 1,000 kWh. The calculator converts your old unit's SEER to the SEER2 scale first, so the comparison is apples-to-apples.

Is a higher SEER2 worth the extra money?

What is the difference between SEER and SEER2?
SEER2 is the updated 2023 US efficiency standard, tested at higher external static pressure to better reflect real duct systems.
